Yago Bermejo Abati

Participatory democracy champion

Co-director of Deliberativa and member of the Global Assembly

“There is a general tendency to demand democratic systems on a national scale, but why not demand a global democratic system? Let’s propose a better way of doing democracy and not simply replicate the electoral system. We have already started; the Global Assembly is a first experiment.”

Yago Bermejo is co-director of Deliberativa, an organisation that helps governments to design and coordinate citizens’ assemblies. In recent years he has been involved in different transnational deliberation projects, such as the Conference on the Future of Europe and the Global Assembly on Climate Emergency. Previously he has worked in digital citizen participation and democratic innovation at the Madrid City Council (Medialab Prado).
