“[Legal rights provide] a new way of relating to nature.”

A passionate advocate for human and nature rights, Teresa Vicente Giménez has dedicated her career to the power of the law. Teresa is a professor of Philosophy of Law and is the director of the Chair of Human Rights and Rights of Nature at the University of Murcia, Spain. After practicing law, her academic research and publications have focused on children’s rights, legal feminism, social justice and social rights, ecological justice and ecological rights, and the new paradigms of international criminal justice. From 2019, together with a group of jurists, scientists and activists, she promoted the Popular Legislative Initiative to recognise the legal personality of the Mar Menor in the Region of Murcia and thus provide the lagoon with its own rights.
