Social justice in fashion supply chains
Author and co-leader of Good Clothes, Fair Pay
Ciara Barry is passionate about gender equality in fashion supply chains (which are a major employer of women globally), and she works in the intersection of environmental and social justice. Ciara co-leads the Good Clothes, Fair Pay campaign, which demands ground-breaking living wage legislation at the EU level for garment, textile and footwear workers worldwide. The Good Clothes, Fair Pay campaign is a European Citizens’ Initiative that needs 1 million signatures from EU citizens to push for legislation that requires companies to conduct living wage due diligence in their supply chains. As well as co-leading the signature campaign, Ciara sits on the Steering Committee alongside experts such as Lara Wolters MEP. Ciara is also an author and lead researcher of the Global Fashion Transparency Index, which ranks 250 of the world’s largest fashion brands on the disclosure of their human rights and environmental policies, practices and impacts. The Index was downloaded over 130,000 times last year and influences the strategies of 62% of the world’s largest fashion brands that actively participate in the research. The Index research findings are also used by major investment banks and groups to inform their ESG rankings. Ciara also wrote the Out of Sight report, ranking leading fashion brands on their textile production facility transparency as part of Fashion Revolution’s #WhoMadeMyFabric campaign.
